The Client

A London Airport.

The Challenge

Following an extended site wide power cut, Advanced Solutions UPS Ltd were contracted to design a resilient, manageable and future proofed critical power support solution. Following a consultation period a full proposal was presented to the client. Due to Advanced Solutions UPS Ltd holding a unique ‘vendor independent’ position in the market, the most efficient products both in energy and footprint were selected. The client elected to fully award supply, installation and commissioning of multiple UPS systems 1kVA – 60kVA with extended run time battery packs and bypass switching capability across multiple locations on their site supporting a range of critical loads.

The Solution

Our vetted, airside approved and BS7671 approved installation team carried out the delivery and positioning of each UPS unit as required. Our factory trainedengineers and electricians were fully briefed by our survey team prior to arriving on-site with all information required to complete the works over a staged shutdown window period. Flight arrivals and departures could not be compromised so a strict time restricted window was met despite heavy on-site security procedures, fire alarm isolations and permit to work procedures. Commissioning and testing was carried out for each new UPS system and the client briefed on the use of the product. A five year maintenance plan on all hardware has ensured 100% uptime at the airport following handover.

 "The installation team had to complete all works during a very strict time window with stringent airside security protocols being met. All tools and equipment were subject to security vetting prior to use sometimes causing extended delays. Despite these challenges, Advanced Solutions UPS Ltd delivered an on time, on budget project. We were delighted."

The Outcome

The client’s requirements were met and works competed, despite unforeseen access restrictions due to other building works starting on part of the site. The addition of an external bypass switch on each system allows for safe future periodic preventative maintenance works.
